Under the Charter the Committee must consist of five members, who are appointed to serve a ten year term. The Chairman serves a five year term and may be re-elected, otherwise they revert to an ordinary member. The term lengths are set for review once a full committee is established.
When the committee was founded in 2024, the initial name of the committee was the Immortal Council of Champions. Soon after the 'Champions Committee' was adopted simply because it was shorter and the two are used, one as the formal name, the other as a informal name.
Nevertheless, the official name remains the Immortal Council of Champions. The term 'immortal' was adpoted because the work humankind will never be completed and therefore there will be someone (or an organisation), every year, who champions humankind and the values of this committee.
